Locking systems decide whether leftover flooring can join an existing floor, even when the color name looks right. Uniclic laminate, generic vinyl click, GripStrip adhesive edges, and glue-down constructions are different mechanical families. FlooringFX treats the profile as a hard filter alongside brand strip, model string, thickness (with pad), and dye lot. This page cites only examples already published on FlooringFX. It does not invent SKUs and does not sell inventory.

Photograph the locking edge. Before you buy or ship leftovers, shoot the carton end and a close-up of the long-edge / end-joint profile against a contrasting background. Field checklist: what to photograph on a flooring carton. Map brand strip, model, thickness (with pad), and any printed locking word with the carton-end label decoder. Color words alone never prove the profile will seat.
Why locking profile matters for leftovers
A repair plank must seat into the tongue-and-groove (or click) geometry of the installed rows. When the profile differs, joints refuse to close, lips appear, or the plank will not drop at all. Color words on a marketplace listing do not encode that geometry.
Will-not-interchange rule: Same marketing color + different locking family = separate floors. Use a transition strip between constructions. Do not force-fit Uniclic into a generic click field, vinyl click into laminate Uniclic, or GripStrip adhesive edges into any click joint. Look-alike oak/hickory/maple words still need brand strip + locking: name collisions.
Named Uniclic on the Match board
Closed SUCCESS listing for TrafficMaster Dimensions African Chestnut Uniclic treated the locking system as part of the public pattern name (models 8436004228287 / 281-454, 3 boxes, area 76248). A same-color leftover without that profile will not seat.
Warehouse Uniclic laminate
Costco / Harmonics Antique Hickory archive copy cites Uniclic + attached pad for AH404S. Confirm AH404S on the carton strip before treating any “hickory” leftover as a match. Cite only published codes. Hub: Costco / Harmonics · collision caution: Antique Hickory name collision.
Brand families do not cross-lock
Pergo XP vs TrafficMaster laminate, and LifeProof vinyl click vs TrafficMaster laminate, are different product families. Thickness lines inside one brand (for example Pergo XP ~8 mm vs 10+2 mm) also stay separate floating fields. Cite: Pergo XP colors · LifeProof colors · TrafficMaster colors · thickness / wear.

Rows use only brands and model strings FlooringFX has already published. “What fails” describes mechanical mismatch, not a warranty claim. Deep links stay on-site.
| System family | Typical brands on FlooringFX | What fails if mismatched | Deep links |
|---|---|---|---|
| Named Uniclic laminate | TrafficMaster Dimensions African Chestnut Uniclic (Match SUCCESS); many Harmonics / Costco runs including Antique Hickory AH404S |
Generic “click laminate,” other brand Uniclic-style copies, or vinyl click will not seat into the documented Uniclic geometry. Color-only “African Chestnut” or “Antique Hickory” leftovers fail without the locking + brand strip check. | Match board (closed African Chestnut Uniclic) · Costco / Harmonics reference · dye lots |
| Brand laminate click (Pergo XP lines) | Pergo XP Classic Auburn Oak LF001002 (~8 mm + pad); Highland Hickory LF000317 (10 mm + 2 mm pad) |
Mixing XP millimeter families into one field leaves lips. TrafficMaster laminate, Harmonics, and LifeProof vinyl will not lock into Pergo XP even when oak/hickory words match. | Pergo XP colors · Pergo vs TrafficMaster |
| Vinyl click (house brands) | LifeProof click colors; TrafficMaster Allure Ultra click (DropLock-class ends on published install notes) | Will not lock into laminate Uniclic or into adhesive-edge GripStrip. LifeProof vs TrafficMaster vinyl also differ in thickness / wear mil; treat as separate families until carton strings match. | LifeProof colors · thickness / wear · TrafficMaster colors · Allure Ultra |
| Adhesive-edge / GripStrip | Older Allure peel-together edges; LifeProof GripStrip category examples on FlooringFX notes | No click joint. Cannot lock into LifeProof click, Allure Ultra click, or any Uniclic laminate field. | thickness / wear · LifeProof colors · TrafficMaster colors (Allure / GripStrip notes) |
| Name collision trap (locking + brand required) | “Antique Hickory” appears across Harmonics and other house brands; oak/hickory words reuse widely | Assuming color words alone = match. Without brand strip + model + locking note, leftovers are not interchangeable. | name collisions (look-alike color words) · Lowe’s / Style Selections · Costco / Harmonics |

How to check locking on a spare plank or carton
- Photograph the full carton end in daylight: brand strip, color name, model / item string, thickness (with pad if listed), wear mil if vinyl, dye lot / batch, and any printed locking word (for example Uniclic). Also shoot the locking edge of a spare plank. Checklist: what to photograph on a flooring carton.
- Map fields with the decoder. Use the carton-end label decoder so model vs lot vs thickness stay distinct. Dye-lot agreement does not override a locking mismatch; see dye lots and batch codes.
- If you only have a plank, measure total thickness (pad on or off), width, and length. Photograph both long-edge and end-joint profiles against a contrasting background. Compare to an installed plank at a vent or threshold.
- Write the locking note in plain text on any Match NEED or HAVE (example already on-site: “Dimensions African Chestnut Uniclic”). Add the model string when known (
AH404S,LF001002,I96711L, and similar published codes only). - When unsure, do not buy. Post photos on the Match board and ask responders to confirm profile before shipping boxes. Typical repair asks still land in the 1–5 box band; see how many leftover boxes repairs need.
