What to Photograph on a Flooring Carton for a Match Listing

Verified-note from FlooringFX carton decoder + Match listing patterns · last updated 2026-10-28

What to photograph on a flooring carton for a Match listing. Clear carton-end photos are how NEED and HAVE posters trust each other on FlooringFX Match. This page is the shoot list companion to the carton label decoder and how to write a Match listing. It restates verified decoder + Match patterns already on the site. No invented SKUs. Photos do not guarantee a match.

Shot list (photograph these)

Shoot in daylight when you can. Keep the full carton end in frame first; then add close-ups. Paste every readable code into the listing as plain text — the photo proves it, the text makes it searchable.

Shot What to capture Why it matters
Brand strip House brand printed on the carton (TrafficMaster, LifeProof, Harmonics, Style Selections, Pergo, and so on) Same color words appear under different retailers; brand is the first NEED/HAVE filter — see brand hubs for TrafficMaster, LifeProof, Lowe’s Style Selections, Costco Harmonics, Pergo XP
Color name Full printed color / pattern words (not just “oak”) Color names collide across lines; pairing them with brand + model avoids wrong replies — name collisions
Model / Internet / SKU / UPC Every readable code on the end panel, in one frame and again as a close-up Model strings beat color names on Match; decoder practice rows use codes like I114813L, HL704, AH404S, LF001002 — never invent — carton label decoder
Thickness / wear mil Overall height (mm) and vinyl wear layer (mil) when printed Height and mil mismatches show in a repair; LifeProof Fresh Oak is the citeable 6 mil vs 22 mil case — thickness / wear guide
Dye lot / batch Lot, batch, run, or shade stamp if present Shade can drift between production runs of the same color name — dye lots and batch codes
Locking profile edge Short end and long edge of one plank (click / tongue shape) Look-alikes that will not click are a common leftover fail — locking systems guide
Full carton end panel Whole short end in daylight; do not crop small codes Decoder rule: layouts vary; the full panel is the proof set for Match replies
One plank face in daylight Face tone outdoors or by a window (not yellow indoor bulbs) Helps a NEED compare to their floor and a HAVE show what is actually in the box

Why each shot matters for NEED vs HAVE

NEED leftover boxes

You are hunting cartons. Photos of your installed floor help, but the carton end from the original install (or a leftover box in the garage) is what lets a HAVE confirm they have the same model, mil, and lock — not just the same everyday color word.

HAVE leftover boxes

You are selling or giving leftovers. Full carton-end + dye-lot + locking-edge + one plank face lets a NEED decide before they drive or ask about shipping. Paste brand + model + qty in the listing text; attach the photos as proof.

Full NEED vs HAVE checklist (quantity, ZIP, comment-connect): how to write a Match listing.

Closed SUCCESS proof that model + photos matter (not a promise). Listing 294 closed on TrafficMaster Dimensions African Chestnut Uniclic with a concrete model string and a 3-box NEED. Listing 295 closed on a TrafficMaster Oak NEED with a posted SKU-style mark and a 1–2 box ask. Both stayed inside the usual repair band. Clear IDs (and carton photos when available) are what let commenters recognize stock — FlooringFX does not broker.

Common misses

  • Color name only. “Fresh Oak leftovers” or “oak boxes” without brand strip + model invites the wrong family. Start with collisions + decoder, then brand hubs.
  • Cropped UPC / Internet #. A tight crop that cuts the barcode or store Internet number leaves the other side guessing. Photograph the whole end panel first.
  • No mil on a LifeProof Fresh Oak collision. Fresh Oak exists as I96711L (6 mil) and I96711LP (22 mil). Listing the color without mil or the full model invites a mismatch. Cite: name collisions (Fresh Oak), LifeProof colors, thickness / wear, decoder Example B.
  • No locking-edge shot. Same color name, different click profile — common leftover fail. See locking systems.
  • Skipping dye-lot marks when several cartons of the “same” color are available.

Do not invent codes. If the carton is missing a model string, photograph every mark that remains (brand strip, UPC, pad stamp, partial groove code) and say what is missing. FlooringFX Guides use only documented model strings.

After photos

  1. Write the listing. Brand strip, color name, model / Internet / SKU / UPC as plain text, quantity (usually 1–5 boxes for repairs), area or ZIP, and attach the shot list. Follow how to write a Match listing.
  2. Say ship or pickup. Buyers and sellers arrange movement themselves after the comment thread connects. Patterns for local pickup vs a few shipped cartons: shipping leftover flooring boxes. FlooringFX does not name carriers or rates.
  3. Post once. One clear NEED or HAVE beats several vague color-only posts.

FAQ

Do I need every shot on the list?

Full carton end + model/mil close-up + one plank face covers most Match posts. Add locking-edge and dye-lot shots whenever those marks exist — they prevent the expensive mismatches called out in the collisions, locking, and dye-lot Guides.

What if I only have installed floor, no carton?

Photograph a plank face in daylight, any groove or pad stamp, and describe what you know honestly. Prefer finding one leftover carton end if it still exists in a garage or closet — the decoder fields live there.
