Where People Look for Leftover Discontinued Flooring

Structured channel comparison for leftover discontinued flooring · honest Sam’s Club gap · last updated 2026-10-28

When a floor is discontinued, people look in the same handful of places: big-box clearance aisles, warehouse-club leftovers, peer marketplaces, and specialty Match boards. This page is a structured comparison of those channels — what each is good for, what usually fails, and when FlooringFX Match is the faster path. It is not a store inventory feed and it does not invent Sam’s Club model strings.

Already know the brand strip and model? Post a NEED or HAVE on the Match board — carton photos welcome.

At a glance

Channel Typical lot Best for Weak spot Proof you need
Home Depot clearance / returns 1–10 boxes Recent discontinuations still on a store shelf Stock vanishes store-by-store; online “out of stock” ≠ every store empty Internet # / store SKU + carton end
Costco / Harmonics leftovers 1–6 boxes (garage) or warehouse overstock Harmonics / Home Design warehouse patterns Not HD TrafficMaster; color words collide with Lowe’s / Pergo Brand strip + model (e.g. AH404S)
Lowe’s Style Selections / allen + roth 1–8 boxes House-brand laminate / hardwood closeouts Same everyday oak/hickory words as Costco and Pergo Brand strip + model (e.g. AR137)
Sam’s Club / Select Surfaces Unknown (gap) — FlooringFX has no citeable Sam’s model table yet Your carton photos on Match — do not guess SKUs
Facebook Marketplace (and Craigslist / OfferUp) 1–6 boxes Local garage leftovers; contractor attic stock Misspellings; no brand strip; “looks like oak” listings Ask for carton-end + dye lot photos before pickup
FlooringFX Match board Whatever the poster has / needs Exact discontinued matches with model strings + photos Smaller audience than Marketplace — higher intent Brand, model as plain text, carton photos

Rule before you drive or pay: Match the brand strip and model string on the carton end — never the marketing color words alone. See name collisions and the label decoder.

Home Depot clearance, returns, and orphan pages

What shows up

Returns, cancelled special orders, and store-level clearance after a color is dropped from the national catalog. LifeProof and TrafficMaster orphans sometimes keep an HD page with zero stock while a few stores still hold boxes.

How people search

Change the store on the product page; call flooring for returns / overstock; search by Internet number or store SKU as plain text. Clearance endcaps change weekly.

Funnel tip

If HD is empty, post a NEED with the model string on Match. Seasoned Wood (I114813L) is the FlooringFX orphan example — see LifeProof colors.

Costco / Harmonics warehouse leftovers

Costco-era Harmonics laminate (Mohawk-associated) and related Home Design cartons are a different product family from Home Depot TrafficMaster or LifeProof. They do not lock into those HD lines. FlooringFX keeps a citeable table with verified strings such as Antique Hickory AH404S, Vintage Chestnut, Skyline Maple, and Premium Oak.

  • Deep table: Discontinued Costco / Harmonics flooring reference
  • Watch collisions: Antique Hickory also appears under Lowe’s and older Pergo depleted lists
  • Marketplace sellers often say “Costco flooring” without the Harmonics strip — demand the carton photo

Lowe’s Style Selections / allen + roth

Lowe’s house brands rotate colors the same way HD and Costco do. Several Style Selections and allen + roth names appear on public Mohawk depleted lists. FlooringFX only publishes rows with verified names/models — no invented SKUs.

Sam’s Club / Select Surfaces — honest gap

FlooringFX does not yet publish a Sam’s Club citeable model table. Public leftover mentions and current Select Surfaces SpillDefense retail pages exist, but fewer than three carton-verified color + model strings meet the archive bar used for Costco and Lowe’s pages. We will not invent item numbers or copy current PDPs into a discontinue table.

If you have Sam’s / Select Surfaces leftovers (or a NEED), post carton-end photos on the Match board. The first verified rows will seed a future slim reference. Gap research note is tracked internally for the sprint; Match is the honest next step today.

Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, OfferUp, eBay

Strengths

Local pickup, low prices, contractor attic stock, multi-box garage leftovers. eBay helps when shipping a few boxes is cheaper than a long drive.

Failure modes

Misspelled color names, “oak laminate” with no brand, wrong mil on vinyl, shade mismatch across dye lots. Sellers rarely know Internet numbers.

Before you buy

Ask for a full carton-end photo, dye lot, sealed vs opened count, and a daylight plank face. Compare to your floor. Use the Match photo checklist as your ask list.

Saved searches on Marketplace + a short “wanted” post with a plank photo still work. When replies are noisy, a structured NEED on FlooringFX filters for people who already think in brand + model terms.

FlooringFX Match board

Match is a small, high-intent board for discontinued hard-surface leftovers: NEED (looking for boxes) and HAVE (selling extras). Listings ask for brand, pattern, and quantity; carton photos and plain-text model strings get better replies. FlooringFX does not broker deals, does not hold inventory, and does not take a cut of the sale.

Use Match when…Prefer a big marketplace when…
You know the model string (or can photograph the carton) You are browsing casually for any cheap oak look
Color words collide across retailers You can drive same-day and inspect boxes in person
HD / Costco / Lowe’s shelves are empty You need dozens of boxes of a still-clearance SKU
You want a public NEED/HAVE that stays findable on FlooringFX You already found a local seller with proven cartons

Quick playbook

  1. Identify — carton end or plank back → brand strip + model (decoder).
  2. Check the retailer that sold it — HD clearance / returns, Costco membership leftovers, Lowe’s house-brand closeouts.
  3. Scan peer markets — Marketplace / Craigslist / eBay with model string + color; demand label photos.
  4. Post Match — NEED or HAVE with photos so the right stranger can find you later.
  5. Sam’s Club — skip invented SKUs; bring carton proof to Match until FlooringFX has a verified table.

FAQ

Does Home Depot restock discontinued flooring?

No. Remaining boxes are returns, overstock, or clearance. Once a store’s last carton sells, that store cannot reorder the orphan color.

Will Costco Harmonics lock into LifeProof?

No. Different constructions and locking systems. Treat them as separate floors even when the oak words look similar.

Why isn’t Sam’s Club in the index table?

Not enough carton-verified model strings yet. The index Sam’s row points to Match on purpose. See the honest gap section above.

Is FlooringFX a store?

No. It is a matching board and citeable archive. Buyers and sellers arrange pickup or shipping themselves.
