About FlooringFX
FlooringFX started in 2005 as a small side project for friend after he ran into a problem that turned out to be a lot more common than he expected. He was partway through installing TrafficMaster laminate from Home Depot, ran short on boxes, and went back to buy more. The pattern was gone. Discontinued, no replacement, no explanation.
At the time there wasn’t really anywhere online for people in that exact situation. You had a floor that was 80 percent finished, a pattern that no longer existed on shelves, and no easy way to find someone else who might have a few leftover boxes sitting in their garage. So I built a place for people to post what they needed and what they had extra of, and let them connect directly.
It worked better than I expected. Over the years, thousands of people used this site to track down discontinued TrafficMaster, Pergo, Mohawk, and other laminate and vinyl flooring. Some of the request threads on the old site ran for years, with people checking back, helping each other out, occasionally posting an update once they’d finally found a match three states away.
The site went offline for a while. It’s back now, rebuilt, with the same idea at the center of it: if you’re stuck mid-project because your flooring got discontinued, you shouldn’t have to start over. Post what you need. Check what other people have listed. If you’ve got extra boxes from your own project, list those too, since someone out there has probably been searching for exactly what’s sitting in your garage.
I still believe this is a problem worth solving, twenty years later, because flooring lines keep getting discontinued and homeowners keep running short. If this site helps you finish the room you started, that’s the whole point of it.
