Trafficmaster laminate floors use a state of the art melamine wear layer reinforced with aluminum oxide. Aluminum oxide is the second hardest mineral compound known to man, just behind diamond. A few boxes have some rips in them but the contents look to be intact. I would like to sell the entire lot of 40 and just throw in about 3+ boxes worth for free and to account for any duds or warped planks. I installed TrafficMaster vinyl 12″ squares (TM370 Sandstone)on a concrete slab addition in August 2004. The floor still looks great, easy to clean and no odor.
In October 2008 I installed the same floor (new lot code) on the second floor and the odor is still TERRIBLE and will not go away. Less noticeable when heat or AC is on.
I have the exact same complaint that Carmelo made in the posting at this site on 9/15/08. Anyone else?

I really can’t believe all the comments regarding customer service. You all know when you go to HomeDepot/Lowe’s what you bargain for! Horrible service and products that are in many cases, substandard. Yet you keep going and then bitch when the ineviatble happens. Did you even look at a local flooring contractor? Of course not! How much is that $100. or $200. savings costing you?

I just wanted to add to the few comments above that have to do with the TrafficMaster Allure Vinyl flooring SMELL.
On two occasions I have purchased and installed this product. The first time, the product was installed in a rental and the smell of plastic/chemicals was so bad that we ripped it up after a month when the tenant began complaining of sore throats, headaches, and watery eyes. Home Depot begrudgingly refunded our money. Now, I have moved into a small new place and was looking for something to put in the small kitchen. While at Home Depot I noticed a new TrafficMaster vinyl product print in “Dark Bamboo.” I asked the HD employee if they have had complaints about the smell of the product and he said that he hadn’t heard of any and they have installed a lot of this flooring. I was aprehensive, but I took some pieces out of the box, gave them a good whiff, and they didn’t seem to have much of an odor at all. Against my better judgement I decided to purchase/install it (the bamboo was so cool looking!) After a few days of it being installed, the SMELL started up. Now, after researching this issue on the internet, I am concerned that the recycled Chinese vinyl used to make this product could be a real health hazard (like all of that “toxic” Chinese drywall that has to be ripped out.) My next call will be to TrafficMaster or “Halstead”. I hear that they may quickly give you a refund instead of really dealing with what is in this product that is making this horendous chemical/plastic smell.
