Carpets by Mohawk
When you say carpet, one of the most well known brands is Mohawk. Mohawk is a very respected and is one of the world leaders in the carpet industry mainly due to its high quality products and tenure in the carpet making world. It began way back in 1878.
Mohawk actually acquired several companies in the “buy out” era in the carpet industry. Its top most brand may be the Karastan Carpet line. This is like the best brand that Mohawk has churned out, it is the fillet mignon of the carpet brands. Aside from Karastan, there is Lee’s Carpet, another known manufacturer of high end carpets. Mohawk also partnered with Alexander Smith, it purchased Horizon Carpet in 1992, it acquired Aladdin Carpets in 1994, Galaxy Carpet Mills in 1995, Diamond Carpet Mills in 1997, Bigelow Carpets, World Carpets, WundaWeve Carpet Mills, Durkin Carpets, American Rug Craftsmen, Harbringer, Image Carpet Mills, Helios and Custom Weave.
Although Mohawk carpets are relatively more affordable now, a slight concern for high end carpet brands is that they have a limited are of distribution. Thus, a small amount of retailers actually have Mohawk brand carpets. This makes it somewhat difficult to locate for patterns of brands that you like. Also, since there are lesser retailers, prices are a tad bit higher as retailers rarely think about being competitive in terms of prices as they have a small number of competitors.
I purchased mohawk carpet from Independent Paint and Flooring in Mankato MN almost 2 years ago. I contacted them in November 2007 that is was matted. Turns out it had pile reversal. Solutia made the yarn, which Mohawk said should carry the warranty. Solutia said everything was covered except pile reversal. Mohawk said they were not responsible. Independent Paint and Flooring wanted me to pay $1800.00 for new carpet. I finally got that price down. We had to pick out a different Mohawk carpet, they do not make Wyndham anymore ( I wonder why). They installed Mohawk carpet now 3 different times and will need to do again. The new stuff has been smooth in some areas and is very frizzy in others. The installer even called for them to reorder, when he saw the discolorations and different textures. I would not purchase Mohawk again, you can get just as good of quality and I know better service from somewhere else, especially do not go to Independent Paint and Flooring in Mankato, Minnesota.
