Below are some useful hints and tips. However, if any of these contradict a manufacturer’s specific requirement, please follow the manufacturer’s instructions instead.

  • The packs must be left unopened horizontally on the intended floor for 48 hours to acclimatize to humidity and temperature. Solid wood packs need one week to acclimatize.
  • The sub floor must conform to all the manufacturers requirements, especially moisture content, (see the details on the manufacturers sheet enclosed with every pack).

  • All ground floors or lower (basement, cellars etc.) must have a Damp Proof Membrane (DPM eg Pro Seal) that is above the sub floor and immediately below the underlay.

  • The floor must be level.

  • The correct type of underlay must be used.

  • All wood/laminate products require an expansion gap (normally 5-10mm for laminate and 15mm for wood); the manufacturers specific requirements for an expansion gap must be adhered to.

  • It is possible there may, very rarely, be a defect of the product. Please examine all boards before fitting, to ensure defective boards are not fitted.

  • Please ensure you are know how to fit your flooring before you proceed. We recommend that you use an appropriate Fitting Kit for Laminate and Hard Wood floors. We recommend that all Solid Wood floors are fitted by a professional.

  • Most woods and laminates have no warranty or guarantee when installed in a bathroom.

  • Grit and dirt will damage and scratch laminates, woods and wood lacquers; therefore it is advisable to have a suitable door mat at all entrances to the building.

  • The floor must be protected from all heavy objects using felt pads and castor wheel protectors.

  • Stilettos may damage any flooring.
