Idiots guide in Frieze Carpets
If you are in the market to buy a carpet for a well trafficked area like your living room, your shop’s restaurant, a showroom, or a church’s floor, then you may want to think about buying a Frieze carpet. This type of carpet is perfect for places that have heavy traffic as they are trackless in the naked eye and they are perfect for places of worship as they have a particularly good feel on the bare feet.
But what makes a Frieze carpet different from a lot of trackless, similarly durable carpets in the market? The answer is in its level of carpet twist. Most carpets that also hide tracks, furniture tracks and vacuum sweeps have a 3.5 turns per inch as its twist level. They use yarn in what is called a stuffer box style that sets a crimp on the material. Then it is steamed then forced outwards. The end result is a very coiled look. When the material is bunched together to form a carpet, the yarn sticks out in different directions, that diminishes the number of visible prints due to the light bouncing off in different directions due to yarn positioning.
A real Frieze carpet on the other hand, has a 7 up to 9 turns per inch for its level of twist. This high twist level makes the carpet coil and kink more than others. Some retailers think that when you are buying a Frieze carpet, you are merely buying a trackless carpet so make sure you ask them for a “real Frieze carpet” to have the real deal.
