In 1923 a small vinegar manufacturing company began to broaden their interests into the chemical field and developed a process for manufacturing decorative laminates for tabletops. By 1950, the Perstorp company had greatly improved its’ laminates and was now turning out a wide variety of decorative laminate surfaces.
In 1977, the company developed the idea for laminate flooring and the product was introduced to the European market in 1984. During the late 1980’s and early 1990’s Pergo began to expand its flooring operations throughout Europe. In 1989 the brand Pergo was introduced and in 1994 Pergo laminate floors were introduced to the United States in 850 stores nation wide.
10 years later the line opened a plant in North Carolina. Today Pergo is still the market leader and sells its laminate flooring products through 3,500 retailers across the United States and Canada.
